It is a medium sized frog living on the forest floor where it hides under the leaf litter. Its skin is slightly rugous with a brown color and some dark bars on its hind limbs, however its color pattern can be very variable, being darker or lighter in some individuals. It can be foud only in well preserved forest with abundant leaf litter. It is a very agile frog, being able to jump quicky enough to escape from predators. It is a direct developing frog, fully developed tiny frogs emerge when its eggs hatch without going through the larval stage. It is endemic to Mexico, it inhabits in cloudforests from de Puebla, Veracruz, Hidalgo, Oaxaca y Chiapas.
