It is a medium sized amphibian, it has a coarse skin with black patches on a brown background. It can be found in different habitats including well preserved forest and disturbed areas. During rainy season males call in temporary pools where females will come and lay their eggs. This species has a wide distribution, from the north of the states of Puebla and Veracruz in Mexico to the east coast of the United States. It is a harmless species to humans.
