It is a medium sized salamander. It has a smooth black skin, some individuals have white patches which look like small lichens. They inhabit only well preserved forest, being usually found in rocky areas with abundant vegetation. This species is active at night, when climbs bushes or small trees to forage. It belongs to the group of lungless salamanders, which means that it breaths only through skin, that is why its skin must be always humid. It is a direct developing amphibian, tiny fully developed salamanders emerge from its eggs. It is endemic to the North Sierra of Puebla. It is threatened by deforestation.
