This frog is endemic to a few lakes located in Peruvian Andes above 4000 meters above sea level. It can reach a length of 30 centimeters, a weigh of 2.8kg and it can tolerate temperatures below zero degrees Celsius. Junin Giant Frog is a fully aquatic species, and it is endangered because it is harvested by local people as a source of food, and it is even offered to tourists. Also, there is evidence of chemical pollution with copper in the water of the lake. Its tadpole is also giant, its size is about the size of a human hand.
