This frog inhabits tropical rainforests from Mexico to North Colombia. Red eyed treefrogs are arboreal and nocturnal. However, during the day, they sleep on the tree leaves while they also bask. They lay eggs on tree leaves above ponds where tadpoles will develop after hatching. Tadpoles can accelerate hatching if they are threatened by a predator such as snakes.
